Organizational Values
In the Omaha culture, the direction of entry into a space is often constructed to face the east. This tradition is rooted in the belief that as a home to the sunrise, the east is a sacred direction, symbolizing new beginnings and renewal. The Memorial Hospital founded in 1913 by Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte has been given a new beginning. Renewed to pristine condition and recommitted its original purpose to serve the health and well being of the community, The Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte Center’s intentionally eastward entrance helps us remember our guiding organizational values. The first letter of each spelling the word “East” in honor of this meaningful tradition.
