SIOUX CITY | Four more Siouxlanders have been selected for the Celebrating Community Project, which honors those who dedicated their lives to represent minority and marginalized groups in the area.

They are: Dr. Susan LaFlesche-Pecotte, representing Native Americans; Evelyn Freeman, representing African Americans; Nguyen Thi Hong Cuc, representing Asian Americans; and Dr. Richard T. Owens, representing Americans with disabilities.

The project is a joint effort of the Celebrating Community Foundation, Mark Avery Studios, the Sioux City NAACP and the City of Sioux City.

Once completed, 13 bronze busts will be displayed on the east side of Nebraska Street between Fifth and Sixth streets in front of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Transportation Center. A plaque will explain why each person is honored; a barcode will connect observers to the story of each honoree.
